Regal Cigs Provide New Way to Quit Smoking

New York, New York (PRWEB) July 25, 2012

Advances in technology have provided countless consumers with new and efficient solutions to several age-old problems. Among those issues is the long-lasting battle many have with an addiction to cigarettes. In recent decades, habitual smokers have endured therapy sessions, nicotine patches and a variety of gums with hopes of ending the harmful relationship they have with cancer-causing cigarette products. However, according to a recent article from Medical Daily, nicotine addicts have a new option in the way of electronic cigarettes. Although the research on electronic cigarettes is limited, the tool has already proven to be a safe and effective treatment against smoking addiction. Producer of Regal e-cigs, Regal Cigs, explains how this product works and what additional benefits it offers.

Although many anti-smoking groups are against the promotion of electronic cigarettes, also known as vapor cigarettes, new and continuing research has shown promising results that endorse the revolutionary product as a cessation tool. ?Although many anti-smoking activists are afraid that e-cigs will appeal to nonsmokers, it is important for these individuals to compare the advantages and disadvantages of electronic cigarettes to those of traditional, cancer-causing cigarettes,? comments Regal Cigs in a recent press statement.

While e-cigs are crafted to resemble a traditional cigarette, the mechanism is actually quite different. According to Regal Cigs, the company?s e-cigs use a charged battery to heat up nicotine cartridges that allow users to enjoy an authentic ?smoking sensation? while only inhaling a harmless water vapor. In the article such products are explained as a potentially ?viable smoking cessation option? according to the results of 2011 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. In addition, the American Association of Public Health Physicians (AAPHP) publicly announced their support of electronic cigarettes to adults in April of 2010.

Royal Cigs comments that Royal e-cigs offer a lot more than a cessation option for those addicted to smoking. ?Our product offers a great deal of advantages to the traditional smoker. Regarding the impact of health, e-cigs cannot cause second-hand smoke or the yellowing of teeth. In a social sense, e-cigs do not alienate the smoker from interaction with others, as they can be smoked in places where traditional cigarette use is banned.?

ABOUT:

Regal Cigs produces and distributes electronic smokeless cigarettes that feature some of the most advanced technology in the industry. Many customers enjoy how simple and affordable the products are. The company is committed to informing smokers about the benefits of vapor cigarettes, most notably as a smoking cessation device. While the products are free of harmful toxins found in traditional cigarettes, they are available in a wide variety of flavors. Regal Cigs are great for use no matter what the atmosphere, as they are stylish and safe at the same time.

Brian Russell NFL: Help for Families with Autism is Vital

Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) July 17, 2012

While little is known about autism in comparison to other medical conditions, recent studies conducted by The University of Missouri suggest that it is one of the most expensive conditions for families to treat. A recent article from DailyRx observes these findings about the developmental disorder that is said to affect millions of children across America. The study results, published in in the July-September issue of Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders, have encouraged several members of the health care community to pay further attention to this costly condition. Brian Russell, former NFL player, remains outspoken about autism research support and hopes these new statistics will prompt medical and health insurance providers to offer better solutions for troubled families.

According to DailyRx, ?statistics suggest that 1 out of every 110 children, 1.5 million people, born every year in the United States will be diagnosed with some form of an autism spectrum disorder.? While these numbers may be troubling, Russell notes that what is even more troubling is that the disorder is not selective ? it can occur in any family, regardless of their financial status. The NFL star has seen many families affected by this condition and has offered longtime support to the Reece Trahan Autism Awareness Foundation, in an effort to provide financial assistance and greater control of this elusive disorder.

Nancy Cheak-Zamora, PhD, at the University of Missouri and colleague, Megan Tregnano recently worked to observe the financial impact of autism on families. They researched thirteen published studies ?to examine the cost of health care, type of health care used, and how often health care was used.? What they found was remarkable ? autistic children required three to six times more health care services compared to children with other illnesses such as diabetes or asthma. Even more troubling, families had lower access to care, due to restrictions set forth by insurance companies.

Brian Russell comments on these findings, ?Families affected by autism have so much to deal with without increased health care costs. It is my hope that health care providers will step up and help cover the costs for these families.? However, Brian Russell?s and other supporters? efforts may not have been in vain according to Dr. Glen Elliot, PhD.

Elliot told DailyRx that while there has been a limited history of insurance provider support of autism-related services, things are slowly changing. Brian Russell, adds, ?Several states are legislating this, but changes are happening slowly, and people are in desperate need of services and care.?

ABOUT:

Brian Russell is a former professional football player who played for the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. In 2003, he and Tony Parrish tied for the league lead in interceptions with nine. Brian Russell, a former professional athlete, is best known for his advocacy of education and healthy living. In addition, he is a spokesman for autism research and awareness. He is a proud spokesperson of the RT Autism Awareness Foundation ? a group that aims to help further autism research and support for affected families.

Gene Linked to Schizophrenia May Reduce Cancer Risk

Manhasset, NY (Vocus) January 16, 2010

People who inherit a specific form of a gene that puts them on a road to schizophrenia may be protected against some forms of cancer, according to a new study by scientists at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.

The MET proto-oncogene is activated in a variety of tumor malignancies. The gene has recently also been linked to autism and has a role in neurodevelopment, which is why Katherine E. Burdick, PhD and her colleagues decided to look for a relationship between MET and schizophrenia in their large sample of patients. Such an association may help explain the family-based data that suggest that inheriting an enhanced risk for schizophrenia reduces one?s chances of developing cancer.

In a study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Dr. Burdick and colleagues examined the relationship between 21 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)) in MET and schizophrenia in 173 patients and 137 normal volunteers. They found that several varieties of MET influenced the risk for schizophrenia, as well as general cognitive ability. The authors were able to replicate their findings in a second sample of 107 patients and 112 healthy volunteers. ?The results add to the growing evidence suggesting an intriguing relationship between cancer-related genes and schizophrenia susceptibility,? the scientists wrote.

It remains unclear exactly how the gene actually may increase the risk for schizophrenia while protecting against some forms of cancer. However, evidence from research on MET in autism provides some insight. Specifically, it is known that MET is activated (increased activity) when tumors develop and can increase the chance that cancer cells multiply and infiltrate other tissue.

The activation of MET during normal neurodevelopment is critical to ensure that neurons grow and migrate to position themselves correctly in the human cortex. In autism, it appears that while the brain is developing, reduced MET activity results in structural and functional changes in the brain that may increase a person?s risk for developing the disorder. The Feinstein investigators speculate that the same risk-inducing mechanism may be at play in its link to schizophrenia.

Embracing Tradition, Encouraging Innovation: Mount Bachelor Academy Enters Third Decade of Serving Troubled Teens

Prineville, OR (PRWEB) October 1, 2008

At Mount Bachelor Academy, a prestigious past is prelude to what the school’s administrators, staff, and students believe will be the continued evolution and ongoing enhancement of one of the nation’s premiere therapeutic boarding schools.

Twenty years after it was founded by visionary educators who embraced the concept of empowering students through a strong peer culture, rigorous academics, and an intense focus on the process of personal development, the academy celebrated two decades of successful service while keeping an eye firmly fixed on the challenges and opportunities that await future generations of MBA students.

A History of Successful Service:

“Mount Bachelor Academy is a school that has dared to grow and change, but has never lost its core,” educational consultant Brooke Dudley said during the school’s June 5 anniversary celebration. “There is an old Chinese proverb that says ‘Jade that is not chiseled cannot become a gem.’ Mount Bachelor Academy is a gem because it has changed without losing its core.”

The core to which Dudley referred was established by a committed team of educational pioneers who, in the summer of 1988, opened an innovative academy for adolescents in crisis. Nestled in the Ochoco National Forest in central Oregon, Mount Bachelor Academy was designed to educate students academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Through the ensuing two decades, the school has maintained its commitment to excellence by encouraging the development of innovative educational practices, all the while remaining true to its founding principles of offering comprehensive therapeutic and educational opportunities to its students.

“We continuously strive to ensure that Mount Bachelor Academy remains a vital and dynamic institution that evolves when and where it is warranted,” said Sharon Bitz, the academy’s executive director. “But we never lose sight of the need to hold fast to the original vision, philosophy and mission of this school community.”

Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Challenges:

At Mount Bachelor Academy, “challenge” has always been viewed as another term for “opportunity” – a philosophy that applies to the school’s continued growth as well as to the educational opportunity and academic support that are offered to every student.

With the firm belief that many of the students who are at risk of failing in today’s schools (or succumbing to unhealthy behaviors) are actually among our nation’s most promising young people, the MBA faculty and staff work every day to ensure that our students receive a first-rate education that integrates personal growth with academic achievement.

Highlights of the Mount Bachelor experience include the following:

Upon enrollment, each student is tested for placement in an accredited curriculum in which science, math, humanities, social sciences, and a host of other subjects are integrated into a comprehensive whole.
Committed to their mission of rekindling students’ passion for learning, MBA faculty members employ a wide range of strategies and techniques to capture students’ interest, address their unique learning styles, and prepare them for the rigors of higher education.
Each student at Mount Bachelor Academy joins a supportive peer group of no more than 15 students who participate in a comprehensive curriculum comprised of six intensive values clarification workshops (called Lifesteps?), four academic seminars, four achievement seminars, three drug and alcohol workshops, and special gender workshops for boys and girls.
Mount Bachelor also offers an extensive drug and alcohol education program for students with a history of substance use, and all parents participate in a program designed for the families.
Mount Bachelor Academy offers both college preparatory and standard diplomas.
During their enrollment at Mount Bachelor Academy, students also follow unique, individually developed plans that involve earning their way through each step of a five-phase process of growth and development.

About Mount Bachelor Academy:

Mount Bachelor Academy is a therapeutic boarding school designed to address the unique academic, emotional, and mental health needs of students who have demonstrated oppositional behavior with a history of gradual (or perhaps sudden) decline resulting in a wide range of dangerous and unhealthy behaviors.

As a leading provider of residential services for adolescents who are struggling with issues related to adoption, loss, or trauma, Mount Bachelor employs a fully integrated therapeutic curriculum to reconnect students with their families, schools, and selves.

The academy’s student body includes (but is not limited to) teenagers who have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Some students have learning disabilities, poor organizational skills, a history of disruptive behaviors in the classroom, and a lack of confidence and motivation.

Mount Bachelor Academy is a proud member of Aspen Education Group, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive network of therapeutic schools and programs. Aspen Education Group offers professionals and families the opportunity to choose from a variety of therapeutic settings in order to best meet a student’s unique academic and emotional needs. Aspen Education Group has been profiled by major news and television organizations around the world, including U.S. News and World Report, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and People magazine, as well as on CNN, ABC’s 20/20 and Good Morning America, NBC’s The Today Show and Dateline NBC, National Public Radio, and the syndicated television show Dr. Phil. Aspen is a division of CRC Health Group, the nation’s largest chemical dependency and related behavioral health organization.

Study Adds Blurred Vision to Bladder Cancer Risks from Actos

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 21, 2012

The Actos Resource Center, a patient advocacy group, is alerting those patients who have taken the drug Actos for their type II diabetes of a British study released this month which links the medication to macular edema. This is in addition to previous studies associating the drug with bladder cancer.

Anyone who has experienced symptoms of blurred vision, heart problems or bladder cancer after taking Actos is encouraged to visit their doctor and speak with a lawyer about their legal options.

For more than a year, warnings have surfaced over the safety of extended use of Actos. On June 10, 2011, CBS News reported that Germany and France had banned Actos after a study indicated long-term use could increase bladder cancer occurrences by as much as 40%. The FDA followed up on June 15, 2011 by issuing its own alert about the drug.

In April, the Canadian Press reported that Health Canada was issuing a warning after a study there showed a greater than 40% increased risk of bladder cancer from Actos. On May 31st, the British Medical Journal published a study from McGill University in Montreal finding the increased bladder cancer risks from long-term Actos use may actually be as high as 83%.

Now, on June 14, 2012, the Archives of Internal Medicine reported a study from the University of Nottingham which suggests that drugs like Actos can double or triple the risk of macular edema. The disease occurs when fluid leaks into the center of the eye?s macula, causing blurred vision.

Studying more than 100,000 people with Type 2 diabetes, British researchers found that 1.3% of patients taking a drug like Actos after a year developed macular edema, compared to 0.2% of patients not on the medications.

Anyone who has suffered bladder cancer, heart disease or vision problems while taking Actos is urged to speak with a lawyer about their legal options. According to Bloomberg News on March 13, 2012, Takeda Pharmaceuticals could face as many as 10,000 lawsuits in the U.S. from patients suffering serious side effects from their drug.

A federal Judicial Panel has consolidated all Actos lawsuits to a special multi-district federal court in Louisiana. The case is known as In Re: Actos Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2299, U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana (Lafayette).

The Actos Resource Center cautions anyone affected that it is important to choose a lawyer with experience in these types of MDL cases. The Actos Resource Center works only with qualified Actos lawyers who are actively involved in this litigation and have handled thousands of cases.

For more information on the a possible actos class action lawsuit, research, warnings, side effects and legal options relating to the drug Actos, or to speak with a lawyer, visit http://www.ActosCancer.com.

StemCell RegenMed Targets Incurable Eye Diseases

Aventura (N. Miami), Florida (PRWEB) July 25, 2012

Dr.Burton Feinerman of StemCell RegenMed announces the recruitment of patients diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, Age related Macular Degeneration and Stargardt Macular Degeneration. Patients with these diseases face the development of blindness at varying age levels.

Burton Feinerman, M.D., a graduate of New York Medical College and a post Fellow at the Mayo Clinic, is the lead scientist who has developed this innovative combined stem cell and gene therapy. In addition, Gregg Kokame, M.D., who trained at the famous Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida and Jose Fernando Rocha, M.D. who trained at the Stein Eye Institute in L.A.,California, both retina eye specialists, will be involved with insertion of stem cells and gene agents in the subretina space of the affected patients.

The first patients include an eleven year old girl; a nineteen year old woman, both with Stargardt disease (juvenile macular degeneration) and a man who is sixty years old with blindness due to Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Retinitis Pigmentosa is the most common inherited disease of the retina. There is initially night vision loss, followed by peripheral vision loss then tunnel vision and later central vision loss. The genes most commonly associated with RP are RHO, RP2, RPGR and USH2A. Age related Macular Degeneration is the leading loss of vision in older people and affects the central area of the retina (macula) and occurs in the dry and wet form. Drusen deposits form beneath the retina. Genes associated with this are ARMS2, CFH and HTRA1. Stargardt disease is the juvenile form of macular degeneration affecting the macula and forming fatty yellow pigment (lipofuscin) behind the macula. Central vision, night vision, color vision are gradually lost and children are limited to only peripheral vision while the disease continues to worsen. Genes associated with Stargardt are ABCA4 and ELOVL4.

StemCell RegenMed has developed a protocol in which the abnormal gene mutations are first knocked out with a specific shRNA agent and then retina pigmented epithelial cells, optic neurons and mesenchymal stem cells are administered into the subretina space(an immunologically privileged space). This will be the first time that the focus of the treatment is to knockout the causative gene mutation. The treatment is done at our high bio-technology center in Lima, Peru. The treatment is performed by two USA trained internationally known retina specialists.

StemCell RegenMed continues to treat ALS, Alzheimer?s, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Damage, Spinal Cord Injury, COPD, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pulmonary Hypertension, Heart Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Scleroderma, Crohn?s, Ulcerative Colitis, Advanced Forms of Cancer, Huntingon Disease, Tay-Sachs, Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, Aging, Cosmetic stem cells for the aging skin.

Article On Treatment For the Symptoms of Lupus Added by OxygenRemedy.org Today

Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

OxygenRemedy.org just released a new section on how people suffering from lupus can get rid of their symptoms naturally though the Oxygen Remedy breathing therapy. The Oxygen Remedy gets to the cause of many chronic diseases- a problem in the way we breathe- and its techniques are used to treat thousands of people suffering from chronic diseases.

Richard Geller, coach from OxygenRemedy.org, announced today, ?Millions suffer from the chronic disease lupus. Scientists haven?t found a definitive cure or cause for this disease. Sufferers are always in danger of another flare-up and all doctors can do is treat the symptoms. They need a therapy that will treat the cause of these symptoms and make permanent changes to their overall health. OxygenRemedy.org has decided to answer this need with its all-natural treatment for lupus symptoms.”

Geller explains, ?Our findings, which are backed by years of scientific research, show how people with chronic disease like lupus breathe more than healthy people. The cause for their ongoing illness is their chronic hyperventilation. By breathing too much oxygen, your body becomes unable to transport oxygen to the cells and tissues that need it. When you raise the level of CO2 in your body, you naturally breathe less and your arteries open themselves to get oxygen where it needs to go.?

Geller continues, ?All there is out there today to treat lupus are drugs that target inflammation or suppress the immune system. These drugs have dangerous side effects and don?t provide a lasting solution. What the Oxygen Remedy offers is a natural treatment that makes permanent, positive changes to the symptoms of lupus, based on breathing exercises that lead the patient to gradually raise the oxygen level of their cells and tissues. This counters inflammation and its resulting symptoms, like joint pain, fatigue, skin rashes, and the more serious symptoms that of advanced.?

He says, ?The basis of health is healthy breathing. People with chronic illnesses like lupus breathe two to three times as much as healthy people, and this is why they have chronic inflammation and a lasting autoimmune disorder. The Oxygen Remedy can undo years of overbreathing and reset the body to its healthy breathing state. It has already helped people with grave health problems that nothing else could solve. People searching for long-term relief from their lupus symptoms will be amazed at how their symptoms disappear, without any medications.?

Geller concludes, ?New sections are always added to the site on specific illnesses and health problems, such as cystic fibrosis, anxiety and panic disorders, and weight gain. The Oxygen Remedy therapy offers a permanent solution for people who suffer from serious, long-term diseases, or for those who would like to better their health to have more energy, lose weight, and perform better physically and mentally.?

“OxygenRemedy.org is devoted to educating readers on how they can cure their illnesses without pills or huge changes to their lifestyle, simply by changing their breathing. Proven by a generation of Russian doctors, the therapy is steadily becoming mainstream in the U.S. and elsewhere and consistently more effective than traditional drug treatments. This remedy has already worked with patients with serious illnesses, including cystic fibrosis, asthma, panic disorders, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and many more. OxygenRemedy.org is proud to make this revolutionary natural cure available to the public.”

Disclaimer: OxygenRemedy.org does not diagnose or treat any disease nor suggest that you cease medical treatment. The ideas here may or may not work for specific individuals. Health can get better or worse with any treatment and decisions as to treatment are best made by the individual who can make those decisions, such as the patient, the health professionals, and/or parents. OxygenRemedy.org does not claim to cure any disease and in many cases lacks enough statistical evidence to make any such claims. Hopefully the ideas and experiences here will help you regain your health, but no assurances are made that this will happen.
