San Diego, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 15, 2011

As parents of a troubled teen we must take into consideration that nowadays one of the most significant teen problems is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also known as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) if hyperactivity is not present. Our teenagers are more likely to be impulsive, unorganized, forgetful, immature, procrastinators and have difficulty with friendships, as part of the adolescent process. When these behaviors are taking place in a severe manner and are also interfering with daily tasks at home and/or at school; these may be due to ADHD or ADD. Teens with ADHD have differences in the parts of their brain that control attention and activity, which causes difficulty while focusing on certain tasks, because they are impulsive and get into trouble. As mentioned before not all teens with ADHD are hyperactive, some teens only develop ADD, which means they are inattentive and have a lack of hyperactivity.

As the term ADHD entails, a teen?s problem maybe primarily cognitive, which would be reflected in poor attention, or behaviors that can be exhibitted as hyperactivity, but it is usually a combination of both. While some teens appear to outgrow the symptoms of ADHD as they get older, other teenagers continue to have difficulties in their social relationships and school performance that carry on into adulthood. In some teens, ADHD may coexist along with unsociable or unlawful conduct. Although, it is not classified as a learning disorder it can cause severe learning difficulties in teens. Unless it is carefully managed by a Therapeutic Boarding School, teen ADHD can result in a lifelong problem.

What types of behaviors do we need to consider in Teen ADD and ADHD?

With ADD we must pay close attention to our teens if they begin to miss details, make careless mistakes in their schoolwork and activities, don’t seem to listen when spoken to directly, don’t follow through with directions and fail to comply with responsibilities, evades or loathes having to perform tasks that require constant mental effort.

ADHD is a more hyperactive-impulsive behavior and we must look for the following: is our teen restless with their hands or feet and seems agitated while seated, takes off from the classroom, is constantly on the run, and/or acts as if ?driven by a motor?. Furthermore, if while studying they have difficulty to remain silent, are constantly talking, blurting out answers before the question is formulated, trouble waiting for their turn, interrupts and intrudes frequently.

According to the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) 3 to 5 percent of all children are affected by ADHD. Two to three times more boys than girls are affected, though the disorder is being identified increasingly in girls. On the average at least one or two teens in every classroom in the United States needs help for the disorder.

Some teenage girls that have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD are more prone to be moody, particularly during their PMS week. Teenage ADHD/ADD Girls seem to be more emotionally overreactive, hypersensitive to stress situations, argumentative, disorganized, and generally demonstrate difficulty to keep up with daily tasks that other peers manage without greater difficulty.

If we detect these patterns in our teens, a professional evaluation must be taken into account. ADHD/ADD is a highly treatable disorder and requires a comprehensive approach. In Therapeutic Boarding Schools like Sunset Bay Academy you will find cognitive and behavioral therapy, social skills training, parent education and support that will help you and your family to better cope with teen ADHD/ADD.

West Hills, CA (PRWEB) November 2, 2010

The recent launch of Dr. Michael Schneier’s website: http://www.MichaelSchneierMD.com, grants greater access to information about the innovative procedures and minimally invasive surgical techniques offered by the multi-patent holding neurosurgeon.

Dr. Michael Schneier’s new website seeks to educate patients about the state-of-the-art neurosurgical options available to them. The site contains valuable patient information about minimally invasive spinal surgery, treatment for brain and spinal tumors and trauma, as well as spine pain management that is easily understandable for patients and their families.

The website also clearly answers dozens of common patient questions relating to back pain, neck pain, and pre- and post- operative concerns. Conditions detailed on the site include herniated nucleus pulposus (slipped disc), degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, facet syndrome, scoliosis and kyphosis.

Dr. Michael Schneier is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, and his research and expertise have resulted in many innovations in this emerging field. Minimally invasive surgery is a term used to describe procedures in which every effort is made to minimize the trauma to the tissues covering the spine including skin, muscles and other soft tissues.

Minimally invasive spinal surgery allows for faster recovery and less post-operative pain for the patient. This is in contrast to traditional open procedures which require larger incisions and can result in longer recovery times and greater post-operative pain and discomfort. Dr. Michael Schneiner has exceptional microsurgical skills in complex spinal reconstruction for tumor, trauma and revision surgery which result in excellent patient outcomes.

As an internationally recognized leader in his field, Dr. Schneier uses the latest, most effective techniques and technologies to ensure that his patients receive the best post-surgical outcomes. He regularly performs minimally invasive spinal surgery procedures including microdiscectomy; microdecompression; balloon kyphoplasty (for vertebral compression fractures); anterior cervical discectomy and fusion; and posterior microforaminotomy and minimally invasive spinal fusion or dynamic stabilization.

Along with his commitment to furthering the field of spinal care and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Michael Schneier and his team are dedicated to “being accountable, accessible and focused” on the needs of his patients and their families. This coupled commitment means that innovative, specialized care continues from the operating table to the bedside.

Dr. Michael Schneier’s new website, http://www.MichaelSchneierMD.com, offers straightforward information about options for spinal care, pain management and the highly effective procedures of minimally invasive spinal surgery. By utilizing the information presented on the site, patients and their families can make informed and educated decisions about their care.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 09, 2012

There have been many questions about the oriental strict discipline in reference with the western free life style. Can the camp continue to survive with such discipline in such an undisciplined society?

Since the beginning of the Shaolin Summer Training Camp, there have been many stories of many children and youth who came to the Shaolin Institute training camp with various feelings, expectations and doubts when they were given the traditional Shaolin way of training, encountered with eastern way of discipline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTWP1jsb91g

The Shaolin camp started as early as 1988 at Mobile University campus, then, moved to the University of South Alabama. The camp later experienced many locations such as Spring Hill College Campus, Shaolin Institute New Orleans Campus and Atlanta new campus in Georgia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8ro86kER7M&feature=BFa&list=UUn5hBdli-Hk7lcFOUVTWfpw

Shaolin-world.net various camps traveled to many cities from Pensacola, Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana, from Daphne, Alabama to Washington D.C. and all the way to the Shaolin Temple of China.

Over thousands of kids went through the training camps. For many years the Shaolin camps were with the US national Sanshou team camps working together in various locations where some of the best world champions were produced under Grandmaster DeRu-Shawn Liu, the head coach of the US team.

Out of the thousands of Children who have come and gone through the years, they all have a story to share of their hardships as well as sweet moments they have experienced at the camps. This is one of the stories about a youth, named Dwight, who was struggling with obesity and diabetes, enrolled last year at the Shaolin Institute Atlanta Campus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zLFVNReLlA&list=UUn5hBdli-Hk7lcFOUVTWfpw&index=7&feature=plcp

Dwight came far away from Texas to the Shaolin summer training camp with his two cousins, also from Texas Andrew and Oliver who had been enrolled previously at the Shaolin summer camp. They had enjoyed the eastern way of disciplined training along with many other benefits such as weight loss and Kung Fu self-protection skills.

Andrew and Oliver convinced their uncle and aunt to bring their cousin Dwight to go along to the camp with them. The training would be tough, strict, and demanding but their family saw the priceless values and firmly believed that Dwight could truly get many benefits in terms of his health and well-being from Shaolin training camp which saved his life later.

When Dwight stepped into the training camp, most people were skeptical about his ability to be able to participate in any of the classes or programs. He was very over weight (over 270 lbs), both of his feet were open, and terribly infected. He had severe diabetes. He could hardly walk.

Once Dwight?s fitness evaluation which included but not limited to his blood pressure and heart rate measurement and fitness testing, was completed, he was found to have a dangerously high blood pressure zone with 230 in systolic pressure and 169 in diastolic pressure. He had no flexibility and no endurance in any of the physical fitness evaluation. At most, he could walk slowly but even then his breathing was much labored and would have to build his stamina in very gradual pace.

The head master of the institute, Grandmaster DeRu, had a long talk with him, expressing that it was going to be a very challenging journey for both himself and the master.

?Together we must make some painful decisions, if you wish to get well, you must discipline yourself and shape yourself with the campus guidance; we must conduct many training segments a day starting from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm.? The master continued, ?You have to eat what I prescribe to you; no junk food is allowed?.

Dwight responded with, ?Yes, Sir?. From that day Dwight started his hard training journey. He learned to meditate, to breathe, to walk and train in Tai Gong, Tai Chi, Kung Fu and eventually he even learned Sanda Kickboxing.

In the beginning almost every day, he struggled to just start the day at 8:00 am, he wanted to give up, give in to the temptation of easily quitting due to the lack of discipline, it was easier to believe he could not survive this long arduous journey. He would complain that his feet hurt just from walking not to mention being able to run.

?There is no way I can run?, but the master would say, ?yes, yes, you can, if you get over today you will feel better tomorrow?. With the encouragement, support and guidance of his instructors, class mates, and his two cousins, Dwight did not give up.

Day by day week by week Dwight was getting stronger and his weight began to drop pound by pound. His energy was going up; his confidence went up and his complaining became less and less. His blood pressure continued to drop. Metrically his feet open infection from diabetes began to close and heal.

Little by little, step by step Dwight began to transform. Before he knew it, his first month training at the institute had past. He was indeed totally changed into an entirely different Dwight. One week before he left the camps, he wrote:

“I am finished with the Shaolin Warrior Summer Training Camp. It has been an enlightening experience that I will carry on past here. In six weeks I’ve lost 48 pounds and dropped 11% of my body fat. On top of that, I have brought my blood pressure down from 230/160 to 120/60! “

“I’ve also sharpened many skills such as my flexibility, endurance, concentration, will-power, strength, and discipline among many, many others. Under the training of such qualified and experienced people, I feel I have been given a unique experience to boost my learning while being immersed in the meanings.”

“I’ve taken every class and they are all masterfully designed to fit any person. All in all, I have been taught a new lifestyle that I will carry on with me for the rest of my life.? — Dwight Brisbin

Dwight continued his weight loss and healing. He is just one out of thousands who has benefited and enriched his life through the eastern traditions of the Shaolin highly disciplined training.

Dwight not only changed his physical appearance he also changed his mindset. He learned to respect himself and others, build confidence in what he could achieve and overcome. To gain respect for oneself, exude confidence, and be able to lead others is priceless.

Monroe, MI (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Physician?s Technology, LLC, the firm that developed digital technology that reduces the potential for addiction to pain medication has called for an important National initiative they call the ?The Pain Pill Challenge.? Pain researchers and computer scientists at the firm offer this as a major step forward in bringing awareness to this growing National health issue. Government sources report that more than 1.7 million Americans aged 12 and over are addicted to pain medications, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths each year. Millions more may be at risk including many men and women in the military. The pain they endure often affects their overall health and quality of life for years; not to mention the impact on their family and friends. They are often in a lifetime of pain pill desperation. This problem is likely to grow as baby boomers continue to age.

As part of the ?Pain Pill Challenge,? the firm is introducing millions to the high-tech alternative to potentially dangerous pain pills. During the months of May-August 2012, the firm has announced that it will offer the WilloMD with a no-risk, 30 day trial to the first 1,000 that register for the ?Pain Pill Challenge?. The pain physicians ask that all participants record key joint pain metrics before and after treatments to measure the results. At the end of the 30 day trial period, each participant can either return their WilloMD for a full refund or keep it to further enjoy it for years of joint pain relief. To register and for more information: http://go.willomd.com/the-pain-pill-challenge/Default.aspx

This new and proven digital joint pain technology can fill an important gap. Things that once stretched our imagination in Star Trek are here today. Cell phones, smart devices, digital cameras, microwaves, GPS and dozens of other devices are a part of the daily lives of millions. The WilloMD is like a digital GPS for joint pain in that it specifically targets and treats joint pain right where it hurts. In younger years, wear and injury trigger toxicity and inflammation in joints. This activated the immune system to help repair and promote healing. With age, this repair process slows and toxicity begins to accumulate in the joint often resulting in damage to cartilage and soft tissue, including the meniscus. These symptoms and signs are known as Toxic Joint Syndrome. The WilloMD can give the recuperative system a boost, naturally occurring in youth, providing safe and predictable joint pain relief that can be used as often as needed with no risk of addiction or dependency. One press of the button and the WilloMD begins to collect data from the injured joint to calculate a digital prescription of energies, uniquely formulated for the user specific condition that is delivered back through the soft tissue and into the joint.

David B. Sutton, CEO commented, ?Many remarkable people including athletes, and high energy performers including the Navy Seals have discovered the WilloMD. They enjoy fuller, pain free lives with the WilloMD. Unfortunately, there are millions that are stuck. We want to elevate the National discussion on pain pill addiction. To stimulate the discussion we are offering a pain free choice with a personal WilloMD no-risk trial. We are committed to results oriented digital medicine.?

About Physician?s Technology

Physician?s Technology is an innovator in drug free, digital joint pain management technology and works with hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and physicians. The WilloMD is a safe, mobile, digital, smart device for joint pain. When applied to the skin surface, it scans for certain digital markers and instantly produces a digital prescription of energies that are safely and painlessly delivered through the skin to the joint.

The company was founded by David B. Sutton, Dr. Ronald Shapiro and Dr. Richard Dunlap to provide a platform for the delivery and management of new therapeutic technologies for joint pain. Mr. Sutton is the international technology entrepreneur, inventor, and investor in in the financial and emerging technology sectors. Dr. Shapiro, a nephrologist, has explored safe and effective ways to manage pain for decades. Because kidney patients are unable to tolerate pain medications, including aspirin, he began to research other methods that would safely and effectively reduce pain. Sutton, Shapiro and Dunlap joined together to research, develop and introduce intelligent computer aided drug free pain management technology.

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) January 11, 2006

The Roskamp Institute, with significant support from Rep. C.W. Bill Young (R-FL), Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL), and Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL), is pleased to announce that its research scientists have received $ 1.8 million from the Department of Defense to establish a Neuroproteomics Center at the Roskamp Institute.

The Neuroproteomics Center is designed to speed the development of advances in neurobiology by supporting advanced and translational genomic and proteomic research projects. This funding will result in significant applied research into diagnostics and therapeutics that are safe and effective for the treatment of neurological disorders caused by multiple sources ranging from head trauma to Alzheimer?s disease. It will also enhance our nation?s ability to deal effectively with traumatic brain injuries and neurodegenerative diseases of military personnel and veterans.

?The leadership and support of Rep. Bill Young, Rep. Katherine Harris, and Sen. Mel Martinez were key to being recognized by the Congress through this award. It serves to further validate the work being done by the Institute to conquer the devastating effects caused by traumatic brain injuries and other related neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer?s disease,? said Bob Roskamp, founder of the Roskamp Institute. ?Without the support of our Florida congressional delegation, this award would not have been possible, and we thank each and every member for their support and for their service to the citizens of this community.?

The Roskamp team that will lead this project are Dr. Michael Mullan and Dr. Fiona Crawford. Doctors Mullan and Crawford?s prior work also led to the discovery of the gene associated with early onset Alzheimer?s Disease.

Thornwood, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2012

The owner of Superhero Publishing LLC has just created and uploaded a brand new article on his site all about constructing the perfect muscle building diet for guys who want to build as much muscle mass as possible without adding an ounce of fat to their frame. You can check out the article at http://3stepmusclebuilding.com/muscle-building-diet-guaranteed-to-get-you-jacked/

The biggest trick when it comes to building muscle mass for most guys according to DiCarmine is doing so without adding any unnecessary amounts of fat to their frame because that can take away the look they were going for in the first place.

Building muscle does not have to be hard, but it can be tricky, especially with dieting according to DiCarmine. He states ?Your muscle building diet is going to be the biggest and most important factor when it comes to you being able to build pound after pound of lean muscle mass. There is just no way of getting around it. Your muscle building diet is going to make up around 80-90% of the results that you see in the gym. It won?t be your training program. The real work and physique changes happen in the kitchen and at the dinner table.

Now constructing a muscle building diet does not have to be hard. It?s quite simple in fact. You just need to follow a few key principles to ensure you have all of your bases covered. In fact, most guys think they just can eat thousands of extra calories per day and ?bulk up? in order to build muscle, but it does not have to happen. In fact, that?s an old wives? tale that you need to follow these extreme mass gaining phases because all you?re really going to end up gaining is 10,20, maybe even 30 pounds of extra fat.?

It?s best that one shoots for steady, slow and gradual gains over a long period of time as opposed to going all out and trying to bulk up very fast since this will lead to unnecessary health problems and a larger waistline, which has been attributed to an increased risk in diabetes and heart disease.

All in all, if one wants to learn more about how to construct the perfect muscle building diet, then all he or she has to do is click on one of the links in this press release or visit http://3stepmusclebuilding.com/muscle-building-diet-guaranteed-to-get-you-jacked/

San Francisco (PRWEB) December 7, 2009

Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today that it has begun shipping additional quantities of Tamiflu? (oseltamivir phosphate) oral suspension (liquid). The added supplies of Tamiflu will begin arriving in pharmacies nationwide and will continue to roll out to wholesale and retail pharmacies during the next several weeks. These shipments add to the millions of treatment courses of the adult-sized capsules already available nationwide and significant quantities of smaller, lower dose capsules shipped in November. Together, the formulations provide various dispensing options for treating children with influenza.

Tamiflu is available in 75 mg capsules for adults, 30 mg and 45 mg capsules for children or oral suspension (liquid) for children or people who have difficulty swallowing capsules. Roche continues to make all forms of Tamiflu, and increasing quantities of Tamiflu oral suspension will become available over the next several weeks through the beginning of next year. The small, low-dose capsules may be easier for children to swallow or may be opened and mixed with sweetened liquids, such as regular or sugar-free chocolate syrup, by parents or caregivers. Also, pharmacies can convert the adult (75 mg) size capsules into a liquid for children if neither the liquid nor small capsule forms of Tamiflu are in stock.

“As influenza continues to be widespread throughout the U.S. and the winter flu season nears, we remain committed to making sure there is enough Tamiflu to meet the needs of both adults and children,” said Alexander Hardy, vice president, Anti-Infectives, Genentech, a member of the Roche Group. “We are hopeful that news of these shipments will provide added reassurance to parents that there are Tamiflu options available for their children when they need it.”

Tamiflu attacks the flu virus at its source, preventing it from replicating in the body. Recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on use of antivirals, such as Tamiflu, in management of seasonal and pandemic H1N1 influenza are available at http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/recommendations.htm.

Tamiflu Manufacturing Capacity

Roche has invested significantly to increase its global manufacturing capacity to meet Tamiflu demand during pandemic preparedness and response. The expanded global manufacturing network, which includes 19 partners in 10 countries on three continents, has enabled Roche to boost Tamiflu production 15-fold since 2004. As a result, Roche has the ability to produce 400 million treatment courses annually, roughly 33 million courses per month if required. At the request of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Roche established the capacity to produce 80 million treatment courses from start to finish in the U.S. each year. Roche continues to work with the U.S. government to provide for the Strategic National Stockpile of antivirals for pandemic preparedness and response.

Worldwide Tamiflu Access

To facilitate availability of Tamiflu on every major continent, Roche has granted four sub-licenses to generic manufacturers for production in China, India and Africa. Roche has donated a total of 10.75 million Tamiflu treatment courses to the World Health Organization (WHO) and offered substantially discounted pandemic pricing to all governments.

About Tamiflu

Tamiflu, co-developed by Gilead Sciences, Inc., based in Foster City, CA, is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated influenza caused by viruses types A and B in patients one year and older who have had flu symptoms for no more than two days. Tamiflu is also indicated for the prevention of influenza in patients one year and older. Tamiflu is not a substitute for annual early vaccination as recommended by the CDC. Prescribers should consider available information on influenza drug susceptibility patterns and treatment effects when deciding whether to use Tamiflu.

Tamiflu Safety Information

There is no evidence for efficacy against any illness caused by agents other than influenza types A and B.

Treatment efficacy in subjects with chronic cardiac and/or respiratory disease has not been established. No difference in the incidence of complications was observed between the treatment and placebo groups in this population.

No information is available regarding treatment of influenza in patients at imminent risk of requiring hospitalization.

Efficacy of Tamiflu has not been established in immunocompromised patients.

Safety and efficacy of repeated treatment or prophylaxis courses have not been studied.

Influenza can be associated with a variety of neurologic and behavioral symptoms, which can include events such as hallucinations, delirium and abnormal behavior, in some cases resulting in fatal outcomes. These events may occur in the setting of encephalitis or encephalopathy but can occur without obvious severe disease. There have been postmarketing reports (mostly from Japan) of delirium and abnormal behavior leading to injury, and in some cases resulting in fatal outcomes, in patients with influenza who were receiving Tamiflu. Because these events were reported voluntarily during clinical practice, estimates of frequency cannot be made, but they appear to be uncommon based on Tamiflu usage data. These events were reported primarily among pediatric patients and often had an abrupt onset and rapid resolution. The contribution of Tamiflu to these events has not been established. Patients with influenza should be closely monitored for signs of abnormal behavior. If neuropsychiatric symptoms occur, the risks and benefits of continuing treatment should be evaluated for each patient.

In postmarketing experience, rare cases of anaphylaxis and serious skin reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and erythema multiforme, have been reported with Tamiflu.

The most common adverse events reported in >1% of patients treated with Tamiflu and more commonly than in patients treated with placebo are:

Treatment of adult and pediatric patients: nausea, vomiting
Prophylaxis of adult and pediatric patients: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
Vaccination is considered the first line of defense against influenza.

Tamiflu is available for the treatment of influenza in more than 80 countries worldwide. Prescribing information for Tamiflu is available at http://www.gene.com.

Manhasset, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) March 26, 2011

Scientists at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research have identified specific brain networks associated with Tourette syndrome (TS), a condition characterized by chronic motor and vocal tics. The findings, published in Neurology, suggest that a brain scan to identify abnormal metabolic brain networks could be used to diagnose Tourette syndrome and possibly to test medicines to see if they correct these abnormal pathways.

Michael Pourfar, MD, Andrew Feigin, MD and their colleagues at the Feinstein Institute used a positron emission tomography (PET) scan to study brain metabolism in a dozen patients with Tourette and an equal number of healthy volunteers. The patients with Tourette had a brain pattern marked by reduced activity of the striatum and orbitofrontal cortex and increases in the premotor cortex and cerebellum. Another abnormal pathway ? reduced activity of the anterior cingulate and dorsolateral prefrontal cortical regions and an increase in primary motor cortex and precuneus – was only found in those Tourette patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The presence of the abnormal metabolic changes in these regions correlated with the severity of a patient?s symptoms.

?Identifying single brain regions that account for the manifestations of Tourette syndrome is challenging because the symptoms of TS are very heterogeneous,? said Dr. Feigin, an expert on movement disorders. He said that the symptoms are likely to stem from abnormalities in brain circuits rather than abnormalities in specific brain regions. Fixing these abnormal chemical signals could reduce symptoms, he said.

The TS-related brain areas identified in this study work together to create a complex symptom profile. For instance, Tourette syndrome patients might have only tics, or they could also have multiple behavioral changes including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or others in addition to tics. Therefore, though this study identified two brain networks in TS, other abnormal brain networks may underlie some of the other clinical manifestations of TS.
