i-hairloss.com Releases a Guide to Male Hair Loss

(PRWEB) October 26, 2005

According to i-hairloss.com, male hair loss occurs because of a hormone imbalance. The medical term for male-pattern baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia. Androgen refers to any of the many hormones that control the appearance and development of masculine traits. An example is testosterone. Genetic refers to heredity, the inheritance of genes from either the mother or father. Alopecia simply means hair loss. So we could say that male hair loss occurs because of male hormones affected by genetic inheritance.

DHT (testosterone and 5-alpha-reductase) is a naturally occurring hormone that helps in sexual development. Genetic switches in certain men after puberty cause changes in hair follicles; specifically androgen receptor sites on the follicles that regulate healthy hair growth. As DHT levels increase as men age, binding at the follicle receptor sites increases.

As i-hairloss.com explains, men lose their hair in different ways based on their genetic predisposition. Male hair loss usually involves receding at the temples, loss on the top of the head, and thinning over large areas. These patterns are identified on something called the “Norwood scale,” which classifies different types of hair loss.

i-hairloss.com Releases a Guide to Female Hair Loss

(PRWEB) November 6, 2005

According to i-hairloss.com, hair loss usually occurs because of hormonal factors. As a consequence, biological events like puberty, pregnancy and menopause that effect female hormone levels can also cause female hair loss.

The most common type of female hair loss is androgenetic alopecia or female-pattern baldness. This type of hair loss is associated with hair thinning predominantly over the sides and top of the head. Female hair loss affects about one-third of all susceptible women and usually onsets after menopause although it can begin earlier.

Other causes of female hair loss include dieting. Rapid weight loss over a short period of time promotes hair loss and some supplements such as excessive vitamin A also contribute to hair loss. Physical and emotional stress can cause hair loss but this usually only occurs when the trauma is excessive and of a long duration. Everyday stress does not promote hair loss.

As i-hairloss.com explains, these are just a few common myths associated with female hair loss. If you experience excessive hair loss, you should see a licensed dermatologist for a thorough diagnosis and treatment options.

Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) June 04, 2012

Salon Khouri, an award winning Fairfax hair salon, will be donating $ 1 from every haircut during the month of June to Fairfax volunteer orgnaization, Our Daily Bread. Our Daily Bread’s programs are designed to help individuals and families in the Fairfax County area who are struggling to make ends meet. Several programs include a back to school program, wherein Our Daily Bread provides school supplies to children in-need, as well as a financial literacy program that teaches budgeting and credit classes to help teach families how to make every dollar they have work for them.

“We are so pleased to be helping this local organization,” states Jennifer Elkhouri, co-owner of Salon Khouri. “We are going into our seventh year of operations and are so happy to be a part of the Northern Virginia community. We feel so strongly about finding ways to give back. We read about the great programs Our Daily Bread offers to Northern Virginia residents and wanted to do something to help them out.”

Since opening their doors in 2005, fairfax hair salon Salon Khouri has looked for ways to give back to the community. To date, the salon has raised over $ 7300 for pediatric cancer research funding through their yearly Cut-a-Thon to “cut out” neuroblastoma in honor of Ashburn, VA resident Taylor Love. Silk’N SensEpil Skincare Review: Affordable & Effective At-Home Laser Hair Removal

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) July 27, 2009

In the past, women would have to go to the salon or dermatologist’s office for laser treatments, likely setting them back several hundred dollars per session. Now, thanks to Silk’N SensEpil, a woman can reap the same benefits of professional laser hair removal in the convenience of her own home at a much lower cost. Skincare-News.com’s latest review, “Silk’N SensEpil Review: Effective Laser Hair Removal” discusses the details of this revolutionary product.

http://skincare-news.com/a-6425-SilkN_SensEpil_Review_Effective_Laser_Hair_Removal.aspx

Traditional methods can have many downsides. With shaving, the results only last a couple of days at best, and women run the risk of nicks, cuts and irritation. After waxing the hair, it’s necessary to grow it out between sessions, making every day a pants day. Plus, waxing can be quite painful. Neither of these methods kills the follicle, so hair will grow back. However, laser hair removal kills the follicle, so hair won’t return. In addition, there are no nicks, cuts or ingrown hairs, all of which are common with traditional methods.

The Silk’N SensEpil gives great results, like what would be expected from professional laser hair removal. In one study, women who used the Silk’N SensEpil for six months experienced a 41 to 54 percent reduction in hair growth, depending on the area of the body.

Like other lasers, the Silk’N SensEpil emits pulses of light. This light energy is then changed into heat energy, which slows down hair growth and may even stop it completely.

As with other laser hair removal options, a woman will require multiple treatments with the Silk’N SensEpil for best results. That’s because hair grows at different rates and in different stages. The first few treatments should be about two weeks apart. When the hair starts growing back slower and thinner, then it’s okay to go up to four weeks between treatments. After that, the Silk’N SensEpil can be used for touch-ups as needed.

Women with fair skin and dark hair are the best candidates for this product. It works by seeking out melanin, or pigment. Darker hair has higher melanin levels than lighter hair. It can be used on the arms, underarms, legs and bikini area.

However, for women with dark skin or a suntan, avoid using the Silk’N SensEpil: Darker skin has an increased risk of scarring and pigmentation problems. A special safety sensor will prevent the laser from firing if the skin tone is too deep. Also, the Silk’N SensEpil isn’t designed for facial hair removal.

For those with a history of bacterial, viral or herpes infections, this device shouldn’t be used, as it can trigger flare-ups. It’s also not recommended for individuals with psoriasis, vitiligo or patients taking Accutane because of the increased risk for scarring.

How should someone prepare to use the Silk’N SensEpil?

Avoid any sun exposure and artificial tanning, which will darken the skin.
Don’t wax or pluck the area for six weeks prior to laser treatment.
Shave the area the day before a laser treatment.
Clean and dry the skin.
Don’t apply any lotion, powder or deodorant.

Some pain, swelling, redness and tenderness are common around the hair follicles. However, these side effects usually subside within a day or so following the treatment. For post-laser care:

Apply cold compresses to relieve any discomfort.
Slather on an emollient cream to hydrate skin.
See a doctor if blisters develop. Antibiotic treatment might be required to prevent infection.
Stay out of the sun.

Over 250,000 new cases of squamous cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. When treated early, squamous cell carcinoma — which is mainly caused by sun exposure — may need minor surgery and has a good prognosis. But, if undiagnosed, it can actually lead to disfigurement or metastasize. Individuals with a suppressed immune system are at higher risk. For organ transplant or HIV patients, this cancer can be fatal. Top Seven Health Risks Leading to Women’s Hair Loss

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) July 9, 2007

It may come as a newsflash to some, but hair loss isn’t just a problem for men anymore.

“Women’s hair loss is much more common than most people realize,” said Alan J. Bauman, M.D., a leading U.S. hair restoration physician. “Because of this, it’s important for women to educate themselves about certain health and physiological factors, like hormonal changes, that are associated with hair loss and thinning.”

Women have a 35-percent chance of experiencing hair loss by age 50, but the condition can occur anytime after puberty. Doctors have noticed that hair loss in women often coincides with hormonal fluctuations and is more likely to occur in women with a family history of hair loss.

Dr. Bauman is a top U.S. expert on female hair loss who’s treated hundreds of women over the last 10 years. According to Dr. Bauman, the top seven health factors commonly associated with female hair loss are:

(1)????MENOPAUSE – Hair thinning is a common complaint of women undergoing menopause. The condition coincides with a decrease in the production of estrogen and progesterone, the female sex hormones.

(2)????POST-PREGNANCY – During pregnancy, a woman’s hair grows faster and feels more luxurious thanks to increases in hormones which keep a higher than normal number follicles in a growth phase. However, after giving birth, the sudden drop in hormones often causes shedding and thinning as the ratio of growing/resting follicles returns to normal.

(3)????CRASH DIETING – Unhealthy dieting and/or rapid weight loss may cause hair follicles to go into “shock,” resulting in increased shedding and a loss of volume that may last for months – or, in some cases, indefinitely – even after a healthy diet is resumed.

(4)????TRACTION ALOPECIA – Over time, certain hairstyles (e.g. tight braiding) and hair extensions can traumatize follicles and lead to permanent bald spots in the scalp, a condition known as “traction alopecia.”

(5)????TRICHOTILLOMANIA – Compulsive hair-pulling, or trichotillomania, can also lead to permanent bald spots in the scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes.

(6)????PLASTIC SURGERY – Browlifts and facelifts can alter the appearance of the frontal hairline and may lead to both decreased hair density and scarring in those areas.

(7)????STRESS – Severe emotional stress and trauma can also take a toll on the body, often leading to excessive shedding and thinning that can last for weeks.

Hair Loss Website Releases ?Progressive? Video on Trichotillomania Hair Pulling Disorder

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) May 15, 2011

HairLoss.com, the world?s most comprehensive online resource providing unbiased consumer information concerning hair loss conditions and hair loss treatments, has released the latest video in their ?True Beauty? series. Titled ?True Beauty: Trichotillomania?, the presentation is the third release of a planned series of minute-long animated public service announcements created to raise awareness of conditions and disorders such as Alopecia and Cancer-related hair loss.

?Trichotillomania is not a hair loss disease even though the end result is hair loss,? explains Michael Garcia, Spokesman for HairLoss.com. ?Rather, Trich is understood as an impulse control disorder, along the same lines as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, nail biting and even compulsive overeating, often triggered by depression and stress. But because it ends in hair loss and often treated by the hair loss treatment industry, we wanted to make a statement on this often-misunderstood disorder.?

Produced by Bright Bulb Solutions, a boutique Internet marketing firm based in Los Angeles, the animated presentation features original illustration, music and animation. Recited by voice actor Wesley Horton, the sensitive narration is meant to appeal directly to young women suffering from the hair pulling disorder:

?True Beauty is attained when we feel good about who we are. But with the stress of modern life we think less of ourselves and – in one way or another – we pick and pull ourselves apart. But the trick to picking ourselves up and pulling ourselves together lies in nourishing our bodies with healthy food and exercise; by nurturing our minds with healthy thoughts; by cultivating healthy friendships. And ceasing comparing ourselves to others. We may find that the most effective treatment for Trich lies in simplifying our lives and in performing simple acts of kindness to ourselves.?

The storyline follows the experience of a young, crestfallen Trich sufferer, depressed and isolated in her darkened bedroom, drinking a soda and pulling at her hair and scalp. She realizes her ability to create any life she wants and envisions a better, brighter and more colorful existence typified by a healthy body and mind, as well as the earned love and security of true friendship.

?Trichotillomania is a complex disorder that demands sensitivity. Our challenge was to create a minute-long message that was meaningful and that didn?t trivialize the suffering of those affected by it,? stated Garcia. ?We focused on the base message of HairLoss.com that is the heart of our progressive brand, which is: ?If you suffer from any hair loss condition, improve your overall health through diet and exercise, dabble in fashion and style, practice creativity and cultivate meaningful, joyous relationships.??

?Will this approach help a young person to stop pulling her hair out? We?ll bet the farm it does.?

View “True Beauty” Trichotillomania video here: http://youtu.be/ffMJ4nePsvI

The True Beauty video series is available for free viewing and download on HairLoss.com as well as readily available for no-cost syndication on YouTube and other major online video sharing networks, notes Garcia. ?Any Trichotillomania-treatment provider or hair loss provider specializing in treating Trich who wishes to assist in our efforts to raise public awareness of the sensitive issues surrounding this hair pulling disorder are being granted free license to embed the videos on their own websites and blogs.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn ? Part 1 Used IT&LY HAIRFASHION N.A. Hair Care Products to Create the Casts? Hairstyles

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) November 17, 2011

IT&LY HAIRFASHION, N.A., Inc. (http://www.italyhairfashion.com) President/CEO Richard Zucckero is proud to announce supplying the hair department with the company?s Purity Design professional hair care line and styling tools for the much anticipated release of ?The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1?. This will be the third time the company has supplied the hair departments and personal hairstylist to Kristin Stewart, Bonnie Clevering with IT&LY products. Ms. Clevering created Bella?s hairstyles utilizing IT&LY HAIRFASHION Purity Design Products for this production plus next year?s Breaking Dawn – Part 2 scheduled for November of 2012.

Bonnie Clevering shares her on-set hairstyling secrets and inspirations:

?The inspiration was simple? says Bonnie. ?I had to remain consistent with Bella?s previous looks which was soft and casual.? She adds, ?For the wedding scene, I created a romantic but simple up-do which was a change for Bella?s character style?.

All of Bella?s looks began with the foundation of a great haircut. Bonnie Clevering created a layered cut around the face and at a chin length level while the back was longer and layered. To maintain her hair color, Bonnie would use a brown color enhancement like Riflessi to give vibrancy and tone to her hair for film. To enhance Kristen?s look during some of the scenes, Bonnie would add extensions depending on whether Kristin?s hair was worn up or down or in braids. The wedding scene consisted of the hair rolled up at the nape area with braids. For a soft finish, small strands from the temple area were allowed to fall naturally to frame the face.

Even though her hair was dense, Bonnie had to maintain her look for 12-15 hour days of filming. To achieve her look through various scenes and weather, each morning after shampooing, she would apply conditioner to the shaft area only. For lift and volume, Bonnie would apply IT&LY HAIRFASHION?S Pure Style Mouse (Strong) to the root area to serve as a root lifter while using Pure Glaze Gel to the shaft. It was important to use products that would prevent her natural oils from weighing down the hair. Next, Bonnie would blow dry her hair using a small bristle brush at the root area for added lift, switching to a medium round brush to finish the shaft area. After blow drying, she would use a jumbo marcel curling iron, running it through the shaft area just to heat up each section and then switch to a ?? marcel iron to create a bend. To finish, she sprayed a light hairspray by IT&LY HAIRFASHION called Pure Definition Spray.

According to Bonnie, ?The greatest challenge was the various weather conditions but filming scenes in Baton Rouge, Vancouver and the US Virgin Islands played havoc on Kristen?s fine, silky hair. So I needed products that would allow me to comb the hair out and re-blow dry the hair without any tack or pulling of the hair.?

About Bonnie Clevering: Bonnie built her career with her early work with Frank Sinatra, Bette Davis, Kim Novak and Elvis Presley. Her continued success goes hand in hand with her increasingly exclusive list of clients such as Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez, Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Hilary Swank, Al Pacino, Julianne Moore, Tim Allen, Kristen Stewart, and Julia Roberts (whom Bonnie has worked for ten consecutive films). Ms. Clevering is also a recipient of the 2010 IT&LY HAIRFASHION Honorary IT&LY HAIRFASHION Artisan Award.

About IT&LY HAIRFASHION: In 1989, IT&LY HAIRFASHION N.A., Inc. http://www.italyhairfashion.com began its mission to create a company that would manufacture and distribute the finest quality, professional hair color products. These products would include complete hair color systems from the initial cut & color to unique after-color products that would be guaranteed to extend the “just colored” look, feel and condition of your clients’ hair.

Big Head, Bald Head – Is Hair Loss Caused by Skull Expansion?

London, UK (PRWEB) January 20, 2009

The Medical Hypotheses journal reports a possible breakthrough in our understanding of androgenetic alopecia which could one day lead to an alopecia cure.

Paul Taylor from Top Hair Loss Remedy.com spent seven years of independent research into androgenetic alopecia following concerns about his own hair loss. In his article, he explains how both male and female thinning hair and baldness involves the continued growth of the skull bones that lie directly under the scalp where hair loss develops. This bone growth is called skull expansion.

Skull expansion seems to have finally solved certain mysteries that have been baffling hair loss boffins for years. These include why the same shape (or pattern) of hair loss will always develop in men with extreme baldness. Severe hair loss at the front (frontal baldness) and crown of the head will leave just a small horseshoe shaped area of hair growing at the back and sides. Skull expansion explains why this happens – something the current theory for hair loss cannot do.

Another mystery involves the male sex hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Male pattern baldness has been linked to DHT, but this hormone also causes body and facial hair to grow at puberty. Skull expansion explains how DHT is connected to both hair loss and hair growth.

If this theory for androgenetic alopecia by skull expansion is confirmed, it could lead to a total redirection of genetic research, affect future treatment methods and might eventually lead to an alopecia cure.

Samson Hair Restoration Announces New Hair Restoration Marketing Campaign

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2009

Samson Hair Restoration announced today a new marketing campaign, the focus of which will be Samson’s ability to please even the most extreme, demanding and discerning clients. There is a type of prospective hair transplant client who wants only the best. In fact, this type of person might be considered “difficult” by many practices, the type of person that those practices might shy away from. These are exactly the type of people Samson is able to win over with the superior quality of their results. The campaign will feature radio, television and print vehicles with actual patients as well as employees of Samson.

As explained by William McCullough, President and Co-Founder of Samson, “We have had great success with the most ‘difficult’ and demanding clients. Far from being a nuisance, we welcome these people. They are the type who most appreciate what we do. They are meticulous, picky, demanding and detail-focused. They don’t want just a good hair transplant. They want only a great transplant. This marketing campaign will highlight our ability to please these people.”

“We jokingly say in the office, ‘Give us the OCD people; they love us,’” continued McCullough. “And there’s some truth to that. Our patients are just pickier than others. We enjoy the challenge of meeting their very demanding standards. Through the technological advancement of our procedures, we are quite confident in our work.”

Samson developed its Quadrian Hairline Technique over four years ago and it has undergone progressive refinement in the intervening time. The Quadrian Hairline Technique is a huge advancement in transplantation technology and produces a FAR more natural looking final result than the standard hairline technique used by most practices. The Quadrian Hairline Technique is only available at Samson.

“The results of these procedures are astonishingly good. As a hairdresser, I have a very critical eye and I’m amazed,” commented Samson Spokesperson, Richard Dalton.
