Smail Auto Group Raises Over $60,000 for Troops First Foundation

Greensburg, PA (PRWEB) June 19, 2012

Smail Auto Group is honored to announce that they have raised $ 60,143 to support Troops First Foundation, as part of their ?Smail Auto Group Cares? campaign, in honor of Memorial Day. The campaign included a monetary donation for every new and pre-owned vehicle sold throughout May, as well as a consistent social media presence to raise both funds and awareness of the organization.

American flags were displayed prominently at the group?s six dealerships, while employees raised awareness by wearing shirt patches stating they proudly support Troops First Foundation. Smail Auto Group?s goal was to not only show their appreciation to the men and women that serve our country, but to support an organization that really has an impact on the daily lives of military members and their families.

?By partnering with Troops First Foundation, we know that every dime that was donated is going directly to life-enhancing programs that support and bring closure to soldiers that have risked their lives for our freedom,? Jim Smail explains.

Troops First Foundation was co-founded by Rick Kell and Smail Auto Group spokesperson, David Feherty. The foundation is a zero profit organization, with 100% of funds going directly to programs and initiatives for soldiers and their families.

Feherty recognizes that every person who bought a vehicle from a Smail dealership or supported them on Facebook throughout May, contributed to this generous donation. ?Thank you for supporting Smail Auto Group and my Troops First Foundation,? he states. ?Every dollar generated helps make the often difficult lives of those who were selfless enough to answer the call a little easier. They have given us a quality of life that some Americans take for granted, so thank you for helping to pay back a small part of the debt we will always owe them.”

Just one of the initiatives, and perhaps the most life-changing, implemented by Troops First Foundation is Operation Proper Exit. Wounded warriors in recovery are given the opportunity to return to Iraq, specifically to the sites where they were injured to gain closure. They are also able to witness the progress that has been made in Iraq, realizing that it was their bravery and sacrifice that made those changes.

While the Smail family and employees of Smail Auto Group feel very strongly about recognizing and supporting our military personnel and their families every month of the year, they are extremely pleased that their May campaign raised the funds to make such a significant donation to Troops First Foundation.

Smail Auto Group has been family owned and operated for over 75 years. They proudly represents nine new car franchises ? Acura, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Cadillac and GMC ? five service and parts centers, Smail Collision Center, Smail Auto Glass and the brand new Smail Auto Detail Center and Car Wash.

All Smail dealerships are conveniently located on Route 30 in Greensburg, PA. Visit online at smailauto.com.

OBESITY: THE NATION?S NUMBER ONE KILLER The Most Common Genetic Cause of Morbid Obesity Unfamiliar to Too Many: Prader-Willi Syndrome. Prader-Willi California Foundation (PWCF) Raises Public Awareness

TORRANCE, CA (PRWEB) April 17, 2004

It is estimated that 18,000 to 23,000 people in the United States have Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a non-inherited genetic disorder that causes people to become extraordinarily obese and die of obesity-related disorders if their entire environment is not managed twenty-four hours a day, every day, for the remainder of their lives.

Never heard of Prader-Willi Syndrome? Unfortunately, that?s not surprising, according to Prader-Willi California Foundation (PWCF), the non-profit organization based in Torrance that provides support and services to individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome and their families throughout the state of California. PWCF?s Executive Director Lisa Graziano says the syndrome is still unfamiliar to most health care professionals, including pediatricians, pediatric nurses, neurologists, and endocrinologists, even though it is the most common cause of genetic obesity and has been identified since 1956. Says Graziano, ?Unfortunately, we talk to families all too often who for years have watched helplessly while their child gains massive amounts of weight, who have gone to doctor after doctor looking for answers and help, and who only recently have been properly diagnosed. The guilt, stress, and misery these individuals and their families have endured is absolutely heartbreaking.? It is estimated that in the state of California somewhere between 2,200 to 2,800 people have Prder-Willi syndrome, but less than 500 have been identified. Graziano continues, ?We must increase awareness of this genetic disorder. Awareness saves lives.?

More Than Just Obesity

Because individuals with Prader-Willi Syndrome always feel hungry, they cannot live independently because if allowed, they would literally eat themselves into premature death. But Prader-Willi Syndrome is more than just morbid obesity. Its symptoms are myriad and seemingly endless. A failure of the hypothalamus appears to be at least partially responsible for creating weak muscle tone; cognitive impairment; slow metabolic rate; insatiable appetite (hyperphagia); high pain threshold; respiratory concerns; short stature; incomplete sexual development; body temperature abnormalities; diabetes; scoliosis; dental problems; problems with motor skills; speech problems; characteristic behavior problems such as temper tantrums, violent outbursts, obsessive-compulsive behavior, tendency to be argumentative, oppositional, rigid, stubborn, and perseverating; and the list goes on and on.

There is No Cure. But There Is Hope.

There is no cure for Prader-Willi Syndrome. No known medications can control the hyperphagia, and no medication can totally manage the characteristic mood swings and behavioral symptoms. But there have been some advances, such as growth hormone therapy which is helpful to improve muscle tone and short stature. Despite the fact that obesity and obesity-related illnesses, such as diabetes, have been identified as a national epidemic, very little research is under way on PWS, the number one cause of genetic obesity. More research dollars are needed to continue to develop the medications that will control the symptoms of hyperphagia and behavior problems so that individuals with PWS can live independent, productive lives.

Early identification and intervention can eliminate obesity and obesity-related illnesses. Early intervention helps families manage some of the behavioral and psychiatric symptoms. Awareness not only saves lives, it improves the quality of life of individuals with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Week Events

Prader-Willi California Foundation will commemorate national Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Week by hosting two awareness and fundraising events, Walking for Prader-Willi Syndrome, on Sunday,

April 25 in Encino and on Saturday, May 1 in Berkeley. Funds raised at the events will benefit individuals with Prader-Willi Syndrome and their families by providing educational, support, and advocacy services, including supportive living and group home assistance.

About Prader-Wili California Foundation

Sync3 Technology Raises the Level of Interaction Between Trade Show Exhibitors and Attendees

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 27, 2012

A new patent-pending software platform developed by Harborside Interactive, LLC, harnesses the interactive computing power of the iPad within a synchronized array, allowing for numerous levels of face-to-face marketing between trade show exhibitors and attendees. Harborside debuted this new system, known as Sync3 Technology, at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association in Orlando, Florida.

Sync3 Technology allows the synchronization of multiple tablet computers, including iPads and Android- and Windows-powered units, into a large, scalable display, while allowing each individual tablet to retain its own independent functionality. Multiple viewers may watch a video that displays across the entire array of tablets, and at the same time, a single user may interact with one tablet and its unique features.

On Monday, June 25, 2012, the Sync3 Technology exhibit won the Best Booth Award at the HCEA Annual Meeting.

“This technology allows exhibitors to reach their audience in two ways,” said Anthony Cutrone, the President of Harborside Interactive. “Users can ‘passively’ watch a beautifully rendered video or interactive game displayed on the iPad array, or they can ‘actively’ use a single tablet for a deeper connection to the exhibitor?s products or message. With either method, we are improving the ways an exhibitor can touch the targeted audience within the increasingly competitive trade show environment.”

Sync3 Technology includes a number of customizable, interactive features for exhibitors, including the integration of existing content (such as product information or videos), data share and capture (using the tablet’s built-in camera), shopping cart capabilities (for delivery of customer-selected exhibitor product information), and crowdsourcing options (such as quizzes, polling, and goal-oriented project development). There is also the option for interactive games played across the entire array of iPads, within an individual iPad, or pitting one tablet against another.

“Our goal was to have each tablet offer the user a unique and private experience while capitalizing on the myriad opportunities that an array of tablets may provide,” said Frank Buchner, the Chief Technology Officer of Harborside Interactive. “With this in mind, we developed Sync3 to be completely scalable, allowing for small displays on a tabletop or for large walls built with over 100 synchronized iPads.”

For more information about Sync3 Technology, please contact David Horowitz (631-935-7652; david(at)sync3tech(dot)com), or visit http://www.Sync3Tech.com.

Slimband Team Raises Over One Thousand Dollars For The Canadian Diabetes Association

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

A team of Slimband staff members participated in the Goodlife Toronto Marathon?s 5 km run / walk during the past weekend, and raised $ 610 to support the Canadian Diabetes Association, a sum which is being matched by Slimband to raise the total to $ 1,220.The Goodlife Toronto Marathon has been a Toronto tradition for 35 years, drawing hundreds of participants each year.

The Slimband team comprised: Dietitians Alexandra Friel, Ashley Comstock, and Rachel Hannah, Post Op Support Nursing Associate Joanna Hollie Yu along with Katherine Good and Ken Pollard.

?We have so many patients who are affected by diabetes, and we want to do something to show how much we care. I?m a big believer in the idea that every little bit helps,? said Dietitian Alexandra Friel, the team?s organizer.

More than 9 million Canadians are currently living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Obesity is linked to type 2 diabetes ? high levels of fat in the bloodstream may destroy insulin producing cells in the Pancreas. For years, all that was available to diabetes patients was advice on lifestyle changes and medications. Now, there is new evidence that weight loss surgery, such as adjustable gastric banding and gastric bypass surgery, may help those living with diabetes.

Slimband congratulates these employees not only on their completion of the run, but also on their support of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

?I am very proud of the team because of their commitment to our patients and eliminating diabetes,? said Toula Zootis, Patient Support Manager at Slimband.

Saint Jude Retreats Raises Awareness About “Addiction”

Amsterdam, NY (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Saint Jude Retreats, today’s leading alternative program to drug and alcohol rehab announces tips the public should know about addiction.

Realizing The Choice: First off, Saint Jude’s educates guests that addiction means nothing other than a devotion. The practices at Saint Jude’s also embraces the idea that substance users choose to partake in alcohol and drug use because they enjoy the feeling associated with them, not because they are addicted to a substance. Ultimately a drug or alcohol user is responsible for their deliberate and conscious behavior. Schaler 2000 xv. Guests at Saint Jude Retreats are not referred to as addicts or victims of addiction, because the disease is not real.

Almost every action that a human being does requires a conscious decision. Humans consciously talk, shop, eat, exercise and so on. Everything humans do is by choice, there are few actions that do not involve thinking about them before the actions are completed. According to alternative drug and alcohol rehab viewpoints, the choice to drink or use drugs has always been in the user’s control, sometimes the substance user needs an eye-opener to see the truth in this perspective.

Substance Users Are Not Powerless: 12 step treatments such as AA, do tell members during treatment that the only way to become rid of the disease of addiction is to surrender to a higher power, and that alone is how they will regain their normal life. 12 step forms of alcohol and drug rehab also encourage the idea that each individual is powerless over alcohol and drugs. Stanton Peele, Addiction Specialist, reveals in his book, 7 Tools to Beat Addiction, “treatment in the United States is geared primarily toward teaching people to believe something that makes it more likely they will relapse!” However if an individual enrolled in 12 step treatment begins stating they are uncomfortable with powerlessness, the person will be told they are in denial and will not be able to overcome their substance abuse without admitting they are powerless.?

On the other hand, the St. Jude Program’s alternative view gives individuals the power to think for themselves, and reinforces that substance users can live any life they choose. This choice is driven through self-efficacy, which is the personal belief to be able to succeed in certain situations. Self-efficacy has a major influence on how individuals approach certain challenges and goals.?

Over the years psychologists and scientists studying “addiction” have found similar results that proves alternative alcohol and drug rehab methods, such as Saint Jude’s, are more effective. Psychological theories and research indicate that it is more empowering and successful for a person to believe in?and to value?their own strength. In this view, the critical element in the cure of addiction is for a person to develop their own sense of self-efficacy. (Peele, Ch 2)

Replacing Bad Habits With New Ones: The brain can retrain itself which is the number one reason why the addiction theory of disease is flawed. Bad habits can be replaced with positive ones such as: a person who comes home after work and immediately sits down to watch their favorite show while snacking. This behavior becomes a daily ritual but the behavior will be now replaced by a trip to the gym after work instead of snacking. This substitution daily can lead to a retrained habit that overtime will take the place of the former one. This type of behavior change can be directly applied to substance users habits with drug and alcohol. At Saint Jude’s users will replace substance with goals and dreams and will be given valuable tools which will lead to ultimate success.

About Saint Jude Retreats: Saint Jude Retreats is a drug and alcohol social education center headquartered in Amsterdam, New York. It is an effective alternative to alcohol rehab and drug treatment centers. Saint Jude Retreats has been helping people overcome alcohol and substance use through Cognitive Behavioral EducationSM (CBE) since opening its doors in 1992. CBE and the Saint Jude Retreats program are endorsed by alcohol and drug program internationally acclaimed professionals, such as Dr. Stanton Peele, PhD, Prof. Emeritus David Hanson, PhD; Prof. David Rudy, PhD; Dr. Joy Browne and the late Joseph Vacca, PhD, among others.

4AllPromos Advises Consumers to Order Light after U.S. Postal Service Raises 2012 Rates

Essex, Ct (PRWEB) December 02, 2011

It?s no surprise that the United States Postal Service has raised mail rates for 2012. Cost-cutting communication including such as e-mail and social media have drastically reduced the amount of snail mail delivered each year. The estimated 2.13 percent increase will take effect January 22, 2012. Many in the promotional products business are worried over this postal price hike effecting complimentary samples, catalogs and the delivery of bulky items such as paper goods, apparel and mugs. The promotional products company 4AllPromos in Essex, Ct is advising customers not to cut back on custom imprinted advertising product but to rather order lighter items that will cost less to ship. 4AllPromos has hundreds of fun, useful and creative lightweight promotional products for any business, school, event or special occasion.

Tote bags are extremely light. It only costs around $ 20 to ship around a hundred bags. Tote bags can be used for grocery shopping, picking items up at the local farmers market and toting around almost anything. They are durable but light and serve as great traveling advertisement products.

Drawstring backpacks have also become quite popular among high school and college age students. These lightweight, simple bags are great for carry just a few books across campus or for storing a sports bottle and some gym clothes for practice or a gym session. Many schools have put limitations on how heavy student?s backpacks can be in order to combat issues like scoliosis and other back and posture related issues. Drawstring backpacks help lighten the load. These types of backpacks also come in every color of the rainbow, with zippers, Velcro, mesh pockets and even in fun shapes such as soccer balls or footballs. Show school spirit with these fun and affordable bags.

Pens, pencils, highlighters and other writing utensils are also lightweight promotional products that won?t cost much to ship. Pens are long lasting and durable products.
