The New Mind Brain Mapping System Revolutionizes the Way Clinicians and Neurofeedback Practitioners Work with Clients

Roswell, GA (PRWEB) July 17, 2012

New Mind Academy today announced the relaunch of their innovative New Mind Brain Mapping System that revolutionizes the way clinicians and neurofeedback practitioners work with their clients. The integrated Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment system combines quantitative EEG brain mapping with metabolic and psycho-social assessment tools, resulting in a comprehensive and economical method for accurately evaluating clients and utilizing neurofeedback to remediate suffering. The New Mind Brain Mapping System is the first to provide immediate standardized automated interpretation of EEG brain mapping data based on statistical analysis – significantly reducing personal bias in report interpretations as well as reducing long waiting periods for brain maps to be evaluated and written. The New Mind Brain Mapping System is the first report system to provide a wide variety of conveniences for clinicians, such as an At a Glance Report, Automatic Protocol Generation, Metabolic Confound Report, Supplement Recommendations and a Simplified Client Report section for clients to read.

?We?re excited to have our new brain mapping system vastly improve the way clinicians work with their clients,? said Richard Soutar, Ph.D., founder and CEO of New Mind Academy who is also a distinguished pioneer in the field of neurofeedback as well as a former graduate-level professor of psychology and sociology. ?This is the first system to provide clinicians and neurofeedback practitioners with immediate standardized automated interpretation of EEG brain mapping data and statistical analysis.?

The use of EEG or quantitative EEG (qEEG) to record and evaluate neural activity is emerging as a powerful and economic tool for understanding the problems clients bring to their professional advisors. By recording brainwaves from twelve or more locations across the scalp, clinicians are able to generate electrical topographical maps of the brain which provide deep insights into client suffering. These maps are similar to weather maps in that they indicate high and low areas of electrical functions and consequently high and low areas of processing functions. The maps can then be compared to maps of a normative sample, several of which were developed at top research universities, and deviations from this normative standard are used to assess the likelihood that clients suffer from different symptoms. This information can then be compared to client complaints for confirmation and used to generate training protocols utilizing neurofeedback to relieve discomfort.

?Clinicians and neurofeedback practitioners will benefit from the comprehensive narrative reports The New Mind Brain Mapping System provides – informing them of the likelihood of difficulties with a wide variety of functions such as memory, emotion, visual processing, verbal processing and executive function,? continued Dr. Soutar.

As a part of the development of its new Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) recently took delivery of its new state-of-the-art Multiplace Hyperbaric Chamber system, manufactured by OxyHeal Medical Systems, Inc. This hyperbaric chamber will provide UTMC with the ability to easily provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy to a variety of patients.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a treatment modality where the patient breathes 100% oxygen while at increased pressure inside the chamber. It s used for a variety of indications including non-healing diabetic ulcers on patients who may be in danger of losing limbs due to complications from complications of the disease. In addition, the chamber is configured to be able to perform more emergent treatments ? such as carbon monoxide poisoning ? that require advance patient monitoring and support capabilities. A complete listing of the approved uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as defined by the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Committee can be found on the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society website at http://www.uhms.org.

The Model OxyHeal 8000-10 multiplace hyperbaric chamber is designed to treat up to ten (10) seated patients simultaneously. The chamber was delivered to UTMC and lifted into place within the hospital by a crane and slid into the building through a hole in the exterior wall. The ?Omega? shaped geometry of the chamber provides the option for also treating up to four (4) supine patients (or a combination of seated and supine patients) at treatment pressures of up to 3 ATA or 45 psig internal pressure, providing the hospital with the capability to perform all standard FDA approved clinical HBOT treatments, to include adjunctive therapy for wound care and the ability to respond to more diving medical emergencies. Mr. Ted Gurnee, President and CEO of the chamber manufacturer, OxyHeal Health Group, said ?We selected this chamber geometry, because it provided enhanced patient comfort, an easy level access for walking, wheelchair, and stretcher bound patients.? The 120-inch wide by 21-foot long chamber is being installed on the first floor of the hospital near the main entrance, ensuring easy access for both outpatient and inpatient treatments.

This custom designed system is made of special materials that meet the rigorous requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy (ASME-PVHO-1) code. QualityStocks News – CytoSorbents Blood Purification System Data Featured at Western Thoracic Surgical Association

Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) July 01, 2012

QualityStocks would like to highlight CytoSorbents Corporation, a publicly traded critical care focused therapeutic device company using blood purification to treat life-threatening illnesses. Its purification technology is based on biocompatible, highly porous polymer beads that can actively remove toxic substances from blood and other bodily fluids by pore capture and adsorption that standard blood purification cannot.

In the company?s news last week,

CytoSorbents announced the presentation of data from its research collaboration at the Annual Meeting of the Western Thoracic Surgical Association in Hawaii.

Dr. David Rabkin, assistant professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., talks of the potential future use of CytoSorb? blood purification system to protect the viability of organs donated by patients who are officially dead from irreversible brain injury, but whose organs are still working.

?While the vast majority of organ transplants rely on cadaveric donors, it?s long been appreciated that brain death creates an environment hostile to organ function. This effect is particularly pronounced in the heart where estimates suggest that about 20 percent of potential organ donors are excluded from cardiac donation due to the effects of brain death on cardiac function,? Dr. Rabkin stated in the press release.

?One of the components of the body?s reaction to brain death is a surge in inflammatory cytokines which have been shown in other contexts to importantly depress heart function. Using the CytoSorb hemoadsorption technology in a porcine model we demonstrated that cytokine filtration significantly improves heart function after brain death compared to brain dead animals that did not undergo cytokine filtration. This may have important implications for expanding the cardiac donor pool and reducing the increasing disparity between the supply and demand of hearts for transplantation and warrants further study.?

Dr. Chan said the data demonstrates the harmful effect excessive cytokines have on vital organs, and shows CytoSorb?s ability to protect organ function in a potentially important clinical application.

CytoSorb is currently approved to treat excessive levels of cytokines in the EU.

Controlled-Release Drug Delivery System Showcased by MedinCell for Unmet Arthritis Needs at 2012 BIO International Convention

Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 14, 2012

Pain associated with arthritis can be debilitating?and current palliative treatments are not ideal for chronic treatment. ?Tremendous potential exists for controlled-release arthritis therapies that can be delivered directly to the site of pain or inflammation for higher efficacy and lower systemic toxicity,? explained Sebastien Enault, PharmD, Director of Strategic Licensing for MedinCell. Regarding issues with current treatments, Enault continued, ?Viscosupplementation can lead to painful inflammation, opioid-based drugs may induce physical dependency, and NSAIDS can lead to severe, long-term gastrointestinal side effects.?

?Encouragingly, over 50 new drug candidates are in development by pharmaceutical companies for osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease. MedinCell has prequalified dozens of molecules as ideally compatible for reformulation with our MedinGel? technology,? Enault continued. BIO Attendees can request a One-on-One Partnering Meeting at BIO2012 with Sebastien Enault for arthritis API formulation program details.

In conjunction with commercial partners, MedinCell is designing multiple arthritis therapy prototypes targeting therapeutic durations of one-to-six months. As an injectable mixture of drug molecules and biodegradable polymers, a MedinGel product forms a 3d mesh after administration to protect drug molecules within the joint cavity until they are freed by hydrolysis. ?By circumventing drug losses from systemic administration, we believe that localized delivery into joint spaces will reduce the required API required by multiple orders-of-magnitude,? explained Dr. Georges Gaudriault, CSO for MedinCell.

Sebastien Enault added, ?Dramatically reducing the likelihood of off-target effects should increase both treatment compliance and customer retention. Additionally, a reduced dosing frequency will minimize risk of infection, a commonly voiced clinical concern.?

Dr. Anh Nguyen, Founder and CEO of MedinCell, remarked, ?The CDC has estimated that direct and indirect costs of arthritis total over US$ 128 billion per year.? The incidence of arthritic conditions is expected to climb steadily due to the prevalence of obesity and the advancing age of the US population. ?With the number of knee replacements expected to quadruple by 2030, effective new drug products that preserve or restore physical mobility will have far-ranging effects on global economies,? continued Dr. Nguyen.

The MedinGel platform requires no API modification, thereby allowing for an extremely rapid screening process for a wide range of molecules. ?We build a tightly interconnected team with our partners,? explained Dr. Nguyen. By interweaving formulation design and in vivo studies for multiple target molecules, MedinCell maximizes time-to-clinic planning and ensures that the best potential prototype is funded. ?In this way, our partnerships extend far beyond the scope of most delivery companies to streamline negotiations, simplify approvals and de-risk regulatory strategies. We look forward to engaging new partners to design best-in-class products for critical, unmet arthritis needs,? concluded Dr. Nguyen.

ABOUT MEDINCELL

MedinCell’s controlled-release delivery platform offers wide-ranging durations?from several days up to one year?for many small molecules and biologics. Since no API modifications are required, formulation design and screening is extremely rapid. Current commercial partnerships aim to address delivery hurdles across arthritis, oncology, contraception, and HIV. Our low-cost components and manufacturing processes enables our partners to target fast-growing emerging markets. MedinCell has formulation labs in Montpellier France and San Diego, California.

Siesta Medical Obtains CE Mark for Encore? System to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Begins First U.S. Clinical Study

Los Gatos, CA (PRWEB) June 04, 2012

Siesta Medical, Inc. (Private), a provider of minimally invasive surgical solutions for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), announced today the initiation of the Functional Advancement and Suspension of the Tongue (FAST) clinical trial and CE Mark approval for its Encore? Tongue Suspension System for the treatment of OSA. The Encore? System simplifies and improves the control of tongue suspension, a procedure shown to be an effective treatment for OSA.

The FAST clinical study of the Encore? System will enroll up to 20 patients and collect key follow up data 3 and 12 months after implantation. Patients interested in this study can contact Siesta Medical directly for more information on study sites.

The CE Mark approval for the Encore? System allows Siesta Medical to begin distribution in the EU. The market opportunity for the EncoreTM System in the E.U. is similar in size to that of the US. Siesta plans to begin marketing activities in the E.U. later this year.

Siesta Medical has been encouraged by the positive feedback from physicians in their initial clinical experiences with the Encore? System. Dr. Jason van Tassel at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA has performed several successful Encore procedures.

?In this quick and minimally-invasive procedure, I have been impressed with the Encore system?s ability to control and manipulate the tongue base. My patients are feeling better, their bed partners report large reductions in snoring, and the demonstrated drop in OSA severity for my patients has been impressive.? said Dr. van Tassel.

?We are thrilled to have another large market available for use of the EncoreTM System and to be beginning our first clinical study of the therapy. Based on our initial clinical experience in the U.S., we continue to believe the EncoreTM System is a clinically effective and cost effective surgical option for treating OSA patients who are unable to comply with CPAP use,? said Peter Martin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siesta Medical, Inc.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a major health problem in the United States. An estimated 15 million people in United States have moderate to severe OSA (Canaccord Adams, Daily Letter, June 21, 2007), which is characterized by frequent awakening during sleep, heavy snoring and daytime sleepiness. If left untreated, OSA has been implicated in the increased risk for cardiovascular disease, including hypertension and heart failure. Despite its prevalence and role as a cardiovascular risk factor, OSA remains largely under diagnosed.

The first line and most common treatment for OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment, utilized by an estimated 3 million Americans. While effective, CPAP is difficult for patients to use.

Surgical therapy for OSA is less common than CPAP therapy. Although there are approximately 1 million new diagnoses of OSA in the U.S. each year, there are less than 100,000 surgical treatments for OSA performed annually. Surgery is less prevalent as most current procedures are not highly effective, are painful to the patient and do not address tongue based obstructions.

The Encore? Tongue Suspension System

The EncoreTM System is used in a minimally invasive surgical procedure where the tongue is suspended forward with the intent of preventing its collapse into the airway during sleep. The procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, also known as Otolaryngologists and takes typically less than 40 minutes to perform.

About Siesta Medical

Siesta Medical was founded in 2009 and is a privately held, medical device company providing minimally invasive treatments for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

New Study: Improved Immune System with Gene-Eden, a Natural Antiviral Supplement that Targets Chronic Viruses

Rochester, NY (PRWEB) March 1, 2010

New study revealed that treatment with the natural antiviral supplement Gene-Eden caused a complete recovery of the immune system and an amazing 34% reduction in tumor size in a patient with pancreatic cancer. The study, which was conducted at the Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease by Hanan Polansky and Ido Dafni, was recently published in Acta Oncologica, a leading scientific journal in clinical oncology and related disciplines, and the official journal of the five Nordic oncological societies.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive types of cancer and is very resistant to medical treatment. In United States alone, physicians diagnose more than 40,000 new cases each year, and more than 35,000 die from it annually. The common treatments include surgical removal of the tumor (only for localized disease), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The tragedy is that these treatments have a limited impact on the progression of the disease, and as a result, less than 5 percent of the patients are still alive five years after diagnosis. Complete remission is very rare.

The patient in the study was a 61 years old female, who was diagnosed with an inoperable pancreatic carcinoma. After two months of chemotherapy, which had no effect on the tumor growth, yet caused a sharp decline the number of immune cells, the treatment was replaced with a second-line chemotherapy, which is used for relieving symptoms rather than shrinking tumor. In addition, the patient was treated with Gene-Eden. Five weeks later, to the great surprise of the medical staff, a CT scan and some blood tests showed that the tumor shrank by 34%, and that the number of immune cells returned normal levels!

Gene-Eden is a broad range antiviral supplement that targets viruses during their latent or chronic phase. The development of Gene-Eden was inspired by Hanan Polansky?s discovery of the Starved Gene phenomenon. According to Polansky, common viruses, such as the Hepatitis Virus, Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), are genetic parasites. After they plant themselves in the nucleus, they ?steal? needed resourced from the human genes. The starved human genes produce less proteins, such as Retinoblastoma (Rb) and BRCA1, and the cell can no longer control its rate of replication. The result is excessive cell replication and development of tumors.

For a more detailed explanation of the Starved Gene discovery, specifically formulated for the general public, see http://www.gene-eden.com/Gene-Eden.htm.

According to the Starved Gene phenomenon, chronic viruses can cause many major diseases, and specifically pancreatic cancer, and an antiviral treatment that targets chronic viruses should be effective in treating the disease. According to the authors of the study, the results suggest that by targeting the chronic viruses in the patient?s body, Gene-Eden contributed to the surprising improvement in the patient?s condition.

College Prep Mastery Launches Online College Planning System

Carroll, Iowa (PRWEB) June 05, 2012

On June 1, 2012, College Prep Mastery, LLC launched their online college planning system http://www.collegeprepmastery.com which allows parents of college bound students 24/7 access to the information necessary to choose if they want to prepare for their child?s college experience on their own or employ a college planning system. College planning includes the student and their parents. Students must prepare for college acceptance and academic success. Parents need to fully understand the financial aid and tuition system, which is ultimately handled differently at each college or university. Together, both parents and student need to research to choose the right school and major.

In the United States alone college graduates have over One Trillion Dollars in student loan debt. The average student now takes 5.6 years to obtain a four year degree. College graduates are starting their careers with an average of $ 25,000 in debt. Many are not finding jobs following graduation forcing them to move back home with their parents.

?We believe that the college experience needs to be worth it on every level; academically, financially and experientially,? said Chip Wittrock Co-Founder of College Prep Mastery. ?We disagree with students starting college with no clear idea of what they want to do, and thinking that it is okay to spend their first year or two taking general education classes until they figure out a major. This is wasted time and money. We have never seen anyone come out of History 101, for example, and proclaim ?I now know what I want to do with my life.??

?After 25 years in the financial services industry, we have seen that for most people their student loan debt is second to only their mortgage,? stated Wittrock. ?Many times the debt incurred is way out of line with the income that can be earned in the student?s chosen career. For example, if the student plans for a career in drug and alcohol counseling their income will rarely exceed $ 50,000 a year. That kind of income will not support $ 120,000 student loan pay off. I know it seems logical when it?s put like that, but we have seen it time and time again and we believe that it?s primarily due to students not having a clear idea of their career path before they start college. For many undergraduates changing majors and picking the wrong school at the start of their college career will add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of their education.”

?We have come to realize that most families do not know the questions that they should be asking when preparing for college,? said Renee Wittrock, Co-Founder of College Prep Mastery. ?They rely on the same traditional processes and advice that are the very things that have gotten us to where we are now, with our student loan debt taking over our nation?s credit card debt as our biggest burden. At the end of the day the only viable way for us to fix this problem is to inform families about how to pre-plan so that their college bound student goes into the right major for them, at the right school and at the right price for the parents.?

College Prep Mastery, LLC was founded by Chip and Renee Wittrock to give busy families of college bound high school students a true turn-key package for college planning. After years of research and planning they have combined the top companies in each of the areas important to college success and put their services in one convenient location.
